A multi-sensorial experience between two cultures.

Mash (Masaaki Hasegawa) and BONAMASA come together in a performative work that envelops the audience in a sonic, visual, and olfactory experience — transporting them to a space of unity between the vision of a Japanese artist in Spain and that of a Spanish composer.

The piece combines live performances of musical compositions and improvisations by BONAMASA — using sounds recorded in Osaka and Tokyo — with live painting by Mash, developed through his process of synesthesia.

The work speaks of time, nature, the connection between countries, and the importance of honoring and connecting with the place where one lives — allowing audiences to witness the union of two cultures without losing the essence of either.

Osaka & Tokyo
Sonic Compositions

BONAMASA developed two musical works by collecting sounds, experiences, and sensations from two of Japan's most important cities. The compositions emphasize the harmony between Japanese culture and nature, and the subtle beauty of natural sounds intertwined with technological ones — a bridge between cultures, formed through sound.

A Multi-sensorial
Experience

The performance begins with a brief meditation using an Odawara furin — a traditional wind bell. Throughout, Japanese candles (wa-rousoku) and hinoki incense guide the audience into an evocative psychological space. Before and after, guests are invited to enjoy Japanese tea and sweets, absorbing the experience more deeply.

Visualizing Haiku —
Capturing the Moment

Mash reinterprets Japanese culture through BONAMASA's music, visualizing inner realities with calligraphy brushes and hydrangea flowers. Inspired by his decades-long martial arts practice, his colour and brushwork externalize a synesthetic experience — the visualization of music and time — inspired by haiku, capturing fleeting moments in nature.
